چکیده

A study has been made of 62 patients with constrictive pericarditis. There was considerable variation from the classical description of the disease. It is hoped that the findings may be of use, because both diagnosis and treatment can sometimes cause perplexity. The atiology and mode of onset of constrictive pericarditis will be considered first, since ,these have important effects on the final clinical picture, treatment, and outcome. Twenty-eight patients developed constriction within a year of an attack of pericarditis ("acute constriction" in Table I and elsewhere). Thirty-four patients developed constriction insidiously; a few of these had a history suggestive of an attack of pericarditis more than a year before constriction developed ("chronic constriction" in Table I and elsewhere).

Constrictive Pericarditis as a Never Ending Story: What's New?

Nowadays, we have a better understanding of the natural history of constrictive pericarditis such as transient constriction. In addition, we have acquired the correct understanding of hemodynamic features that are unique to constrictive pericarditis. This understanding has allowed us to diagnose constrictive pericarditis reliably with Doppler echocardiography and differentiation between constri...

Constrictive pericarditis

Constrictive pericarditis — Constrictive pericarditis is the result of scarring and consequent loss of the normal elasticity of the pericardial sac. Pericardial constriction is typically chronic, but variants include subacute, transient, and occult constriction. Pathologically, this results in chronic inflammation and, frequently, calcification. Grossly, the pericardium is considerably thicker ...

[Constrictive pericarditis].

The diagnosis of constrictive pericarditis remains a challenge because its physical findings and hemodynamics mimic restrictive cardiomyopathy. Various diagnostic advances over the years enable us to differentiate between these two conditions. This review begins with a case report of constrictive pericarditis, followed by a brief history and discussions of etiologies. Clinical features, radiolo...

Tuberculous constrictive pericarditis with concurrent active pulmonary tuberculous infection: a case report

INTRODUCTION In some particular endemic area, it is not uncommon to see patients with tuberculosis pericarditis. However, it takes a period of time from tuberculous pericarditis to constrictive pericarditis. There is still no report of tuberculous constrictive pericarditis concurrent with active pulmonary TB infection in a patient without previous pulmonary TB infection history. Therefore, we r...
